The Director of Government Affairs & Communications is a VIRTUAL position. Candidates must be located in the DC-MD-VA area.
In collaboration with the Executive Director, Senior Lobbyist and Legislative Committee, this position develops and manages association strategy for strengthening relationships with elected officials and government agencies and increasing their understanding of and support association issues.
Monitors legislation and policy activities, updates and advises leadership and staff about relevant policy proposals and actions, and works with Legislative Committee to analyze potential impacts on the association membership and clients.
Engages constituents inside and outside the association in support of the government relations agenda.
Develops a wide range of materials in support of the association government relations agenda, such as talking points, legislative summaries, fact sheets, testimony, reports, and letters.
Plans and implements events and other activities to support the Association government relations goals, such as town halls, news conferences, DC Legislative visits, and meetings.
Create, post, and manage content for advocacy section of association website including Voter Voice alerts.
Draft articles printed and online publications (eNewsletter, eMagazinie), blog, and social media.
Execute other projects and assignments in support of association events (webinar, convention, etc).
Bachelor's degree required.
Three to four years of professional experience preferred, including on Capitol Hill, political campaigns, grassroots advocacy experience, and/or in the non-profit sector
Experience with advocacy software products.
Excellent computer skills. As a virtual employee, the candidate must be tech savvy and accessible.
Strong written and oral communication and organization skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in teams
A positive attitude and an earnest interest in providing good customer service to our members and partners.
Some travel may be required (2-3x per year)
