The American Alliance of Museums seeks a hands-on VP of Finance and Administration to ensure the long-term growth and sustainability of the organization’s financial and business operations and contribute to a dynamic workplace culture dedicated to serving the museum field. This is an ideal opportunity for a Controller ready to take on some CFO responsibilities. Working closely with executive team members, the VP will perform and present financial analyses and projections, manage the allocation of resources to support the Alliance’s mission and achieve its strategic plan, as well as provide leadership and support to accounting functions, investment fund management, human resources, contract administration, insurance, legal and facilities matters.
About the position: Reporting to the President/CEO, the VP leads the organization’s annual budget development and guides project budget development for grant proposals; manages the annual financial statement and A-133 audits; ensures compliance with government grant and tax requirements, making the appropriate UBIT and other tax filings; processes, maintains and reports accurate financial data, including all month end closing and related activities.
With accounting staff support, s/he reviews month end reconciliations and supporting schedules, providing financial analysis for external and internal stakeholders and oversees AP/AR, general ledger maintenance, accounting for grants and cash management and outsourced non-dues revenue activities.
The VP will recommend improvements in financial processes and systems – including greater efficiencies within accounting systems (MS Dynamics Great Plains) and association management software (Aptify) and will provide guidance and effective communications on financial processes and concepts to board members and staff. Salary range is $125 - $150K.
Skills and qualifications:
Current CPA certification
Senior management experience in nonprofit management with at least three years at department director (comptroller) level or above
Highly knowledgeable about financial accounting within nonprofit organizations
Federal grant management & business planning forecasting experience preferred
Familiarity with payroll, 403(b) administration/compliance preferred.
Superb computer skills including MS Office. Preferred familiarity with Dynamics GP, Management Reporter, and inter-relational databases such as Aptify
Strong negotiation skills and contract management expertise
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to travel 2-3 times per year
