This is a highly responsible position that requires the exercise of independent judgment and financial stewardship on behalf of the Association.
Works in close cooperation with the Directors of Membership and Communications, and the Public Policy team.
Serves as the primary liaison to the Professional Development Committee. Also serves as the primary staff in marketing Association educational programs, convention and events to new and existing members. The Director of Education and Events will attend Association events.
Skills Required Education Programming: Excellent communications and project management skills. Graphics and design skills are preferable. Experience in developing and implementing professional education programs to fit the mission of LeadingAge Florida and its members’ needs. Experience in working with a committee of subject matter experts for the recommendation and review of relevant, timely educational topics and events.
Event Planning: Excellent communications and project management skills. In-depth knowledge of event planning and contracting. Demonstrated ability to plan large-scale events, including selection of venue, contract negotiation, speaker selection and negotiation, and vendor negotiation.
The Director of Education and Events is expected to perform independently with minimal guidance. Ability to organize, think, write independently and creatively, monitor and manage multiple projects, set goals and priorities, and meet deadlines. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, and other computer software, as needed. This position requires a highly motivated, detail oriented and dependable individual.
Education Programming This position has complete responsibility for LeadingAge Florida’s professional development programs, including seminars conducted during the LeadingAge Florida annual convention. • Develops an annual education plan and budget that meets board-adopted goals, delivers value to member communities, and meets budget targets. • Directs all LeadingAge Florida activities related to the planning, marketing, and implementation of professional development programs and products. Coordinates with other LeadingAge Florida staff, as appropriate. • Serves as the primary staff liaison to LeadingAge Florida’s Professional Development Committee. Researches and develops draft agendas and records meeting minutes to effectively staff the committee in its development of educational strategy and programming. • Writes the Professional Development Committee report for the LeadingAge Florida annual report. • Develops and maintains the catalog of LeadingAge Florida educational events and products and facilitates communication of these events and products through all channels. • Maintains educational provider status with the Board of Nursing, the Board of Pharmacy, the Board of Social Workers, the Board of Nursing Home Administrators, and other relevant organizations. Event Planning This position is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing all LeadingAge Florida events, including educational and non-educational events. • Develops non-educational events and related budgets, proposes and negotiates event venues and contracts for review by the COO and CEO. • Primarily responsible for all meeting logistics, as well as the on-site implementation and management of each event. • Develops implementation and marketing plans for the Legislative Workshop, the Annual Convention, and other non-educational events and meetings. • Prepares and oversees a comprehensive staff schedule for the Annual Convention and Legislative Workshop. • Attends LeadingAge educational and non-educational events. • Maintains event statistics/demographics, including event budgets, attendance histories, attendance by member category, food requirements, speakers, and other event information.
