Founded in 1942, the National Association of Surety Bond Producers (NASBP) is a national trade association whose membership includes agencies employing surety bond producers, surety companies, reinsurers, and construction-oriented CPA firms. NASBP has an immediate opening for a Director, Professional Development to manage the association's well-regarded professional development programs for surety professionals. This is an important and visible, full-time, permanent position offering an excellent and competitive benefits package.
The surety industry has been experiencing growth and profitability, and there is a strong need to prepare and to educate new talent entering the industry. The Director, Professional Development will be at the forefront of ensuring that adequate training exists for these professionals through in-person and distance learning offerings. The Director, Professional Development will work collaboratively with a dedicated group of volunteers to manage a portfolio of programs offered virtually and at association meetings and will generate and explore ideas and other means to bring meaningful educational experiences to industry professionals.

This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer and will direct and manage the Assistant Director, Professional Development.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Manages the activities of the Professional Development Department to include, but not limited to, curriculum development, programming for Annual and Regional Meetings, Surety Schools, professional development programs to include e-learning courses, Virtual Seminars, certification, continuing education activities, and strategic partnerships.
Lead a results-oriented, responsive, and well integrated team of staff and volunteers to achieve the association’s goal and objectives, and to deliver high quality services, programs, and educational offerings to the membership.
Research, enhance, and incorporate new state-of-the-art approaches that have been proven to be effective in other multifaceted education and training programs to ensure currency of delivery systems, learning techniques, and best practices.
Build and enhance relationships with other organizations to achieve overall NASBP educational objectives.
Manage program to approved annual budget.
Advise and make recommendations to revise, upgrade and implement current and new education programs based on research and analysis of the membership needs.
Collaborate with all key internal and external stakeholders and providers to identify major points-of-view, issues and concerns to ensure alignment with the strategic direction and business plans.
Oversees coordination of logistics for collaborative education committee meetings and conference calls.
Generates committee correspondence and minutes and responds to inquires as requested.
Acts as liaison to other departments regarding education initiative inquiries.
Assists with the development of continuing education policies and procedures manual.
Attend committee meetings as staff liaison.
Survey the membership to define new educational needs and programming opportunities.
Validate existing curriculum by ongoing evaluation.
Review and monitor course documentation and related instructional materials for educational adequacy and accuracy and conformance to established criteria.
Develop, review, and revise standards and policies for curriculum planning and development, training validation, student performance, and ongoing evaluation and coaching of faculty and content developers.
Ensures compliance and consistency of continuing education documentation.
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree in education, curriculum development, or relevant field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
Minimum 5+ years of experience in developing and managing education and professional development programs and curriculum development for various educational delivery platforms including webinars/audio conferences, online learning, classroom-based education and certification programs.
Strong leadership, managerial, organizational, and customer service skills.
Strong MS Office skills, including presentation software.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of or willingness to learn iMIS database software.
Some knowledge of construction and surety or insurance industry practices preferred.
Knowledge of instructional design: the study of the principals and techniques used in designing training programs and applying design methodology to improve instructional effectiveness.
Knowledge of education evaluation: the study of the techniques for evaluating the effectiveness of instructional/education programs, including identifying tests and survey instruments.
Knowledge of virtual delivery of educational content: the study of the application of the electronic delivery of educational content, including the evaluation of applications and vendors.
