EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR * JOB DESCRIPTION
THIS POSITION REPORTS TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS of GNHA
SUMMARY: Responsible for oversight and decision-making regarding all management and operational functions of Greater Nashville Hospitality Association and its related entities. Develops and implements an annual budget. Responsible for a comprehensive legislative program that involves both the introduction and passage of bills, and the defeat of negative legislation. Maintains regular communication with Board of Directors and the general membership on all issues impacting the hospitality industry. Works to create and maintain strong partnerships with other industry sections, national, state and local trade associations, state and local government entities, and elected and appointed officials and staff within these sectors. Meets with industry groups and local government groups throughout the city on legal, legislative, and policy issues. Maintains membership as well as recruitment of new members.
DUTIES OF POSITION:
Responsible for developing, gaining Board approval and implementation of the annual budget and marketing plan as well as GNHA investment strategy and annual audits.
Prepare and review monthly/quarterly financial statements and reports; approves staff expenses and reimbursements.
Board discussion of ALL financial reports
Develops and implements plans to increase revenues for the association.
Be responsible for seeing that applications for local grant programs are properly prepared and administered.
Works with accountant to maintain compliance with all taxes, reporting, etc. to local, state and federal governments.
Ensures the integrity of the association.
Establishes the organizational structure for the headquarters office and the related staffing structure.
Establishes administrative policies and procedures for association in accordance with the by-laws and/or board initiatives.
Conducts or acquires industry research as necessary. Administrative – Guide functioning of Associations in accord with bylaws, policies and requirements of respective organization. Manage maintenance of Board of Directors and committee relations. Oversee management of office building.
Responsible for staff hiring, training, salary determination, performance reviews, and termination functions, oversees staff benefit plans, all with Executive Board approval.
Oversees all Committees as determined by the board.
The Director shall serve as advisor to the Board of Directors, assemble information as may be required and attend all meetings of the Board and Board committees in an advisory, non-voting capacity.
The Director shall perform such other duties that may come up from time to time. In addition to this, the board may assign additional duties.
LEGISLATIVE AND REGULATORY AFFAIRS: Supervises the GNHA lobbying effort in regards to the following items.
State and local Legislative Activities: Oversees all aspects of state/local legislative advocacy programs, including serving as primary liaison to outside lobbyists, reviewing all legislation and amendments, works with government affairs committee in developing legislative advocacy strategies, drafting legislation and amendments, drafting/providing
Written Reports: Working with lobbyist, provides written reports on the status of GNHA and its related entities at Board of Directors meetings; Writes governmental affairs and legislative news for GNHA newsletter.
Political Action Committee (GNHAPAC): Develops strategies for increasing contributions to the GNHAPAC fund.
Interacts with GNHA general council: On all legal matter that pertain to the association.
Develops coalitions with other associations/groups to support or oppose like issues.
Assist members as needed with direction for issues on local level that affect them.
Oversees all aspects of public relations activities; responds to press inquiries or identifies appropriate officer, board member or member to respond, particularly relating to governmental affairs and legal issues.
Oversees publication of monthly newsletter.
Promote the association to the general public.
Maintain a good working relationship with the media.
Maintain a good working relationship with local, state and national elected and appointed officials.
Communications – Guide and inspire professional and informational communication with members on all communications efforts.
Member Relations – Manage and review membership and member benefit programs. Respond to issues brought up by members. Oversee maintenance of member databases. Proactively promote the Association’s work, status, achievements and more through an ongoing public relations effort.
Education – Oversee educational efforts, including member seminars, scholarships, foundations, academies and education-related efforts.
Political Action Committee – Work with lobbyist, the Governmental Affairs Committee and PAC chairs to raise funds.
Constantly market the association to current members, maintain retention and just as important, build new membership. (Restaurant, Hotels and Trade/Associate Membership Members)
Develop and implement plans to increase membership.
Monitor monthly membership sales to maintain continual growth.
ENDORSED VENDOR CONTRACTS:
Identifies discount service programs, reviews all aspects of new and existing contracts between TnHA and endorsed vendors.
Oversee all aspects of annual conference and other meetings to insure strong networking and educational opportunities for members and successful financial results for association.
College degree or work experience equivalent of 5 years
