The National Grocers Association is the national trade association representing the retail and wholesale grocers that comprise the independent sector of the food distribution industry. In addition to retail and wholesale members, NGA represents affiliated associations, manufacturers, and service suppliers, and other entrepreneurial companies that support NGA’s Mission and Philosophy.
NGA is searching for an energetic individual to join the NGA Government Relations team as the Senior Manager, Government Relations. The Senior Manager of Government Relations will work closely with the VP of Government Relations, and will be responsible for an issue portfolio primarily focused on financial services and policies surrounding electronic payments. Other assigned issues may include transportation, cyber/data security, labor/pensions, and small business.
Responsibilities: Identify, monitor, and report internally and to NGA membership on legislative and regulatory issues
Advocate NGA’s policy priorities before Congress and the Executive Branch and develop strategic engagement activities for NGA member companies
Engage with and monitor Congressional Committees of jurisdiction for assigned issues
Represent NGA in industry meetings and coalitions; attend fundraisers
Support NGA’s grassroots advocacy program and Political Action Committee efforts
Assist with the preparation of the quarterly lobby report, Board book, Board updates, and yearly reports
Draft content for newsletters, blogs, and government relations updates
Other duties as assigned.
Strong understanding of federal legislative and regulatory process
Knowledge and experience in tax policy required
3+ years of experience on the Hill, Executive Branch, and/or in government affairs
Strong written and oral communications skills
Ability to multitask on simultaneous projects
Team player with proven ability to collaborate with others on projects
Knowledge and experience in financial services policy required
Bachelor’s degree required
Ability to travel on an as needed basis.
