The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) is seeking a motivated self-starter to serve as Manager of State Government Relations. This position will be located in NATO’s headquarters in Washington, DC.
The Manager of State Government Relations will serve as the point of contact with NATO’s state and regional units on legislative issues and administer NATO’s grant program supporting the legislative activity of state and regional units. The Manager of State Government Relations will report to the Director of Government Relations and work collaboratively with the Director to execute the industry’s priorities at the state and local level.
The regular duties will include but not be limited to:
Conducting daily state and local legislative tracking using Stateside, and sharing this information with interested national NATO members and regional units;
Reporting state and local legislative developments to national NATO members;
Facilitating grassroots coordination, materials sharing, and information flow between regional units and national NATO members on state and local issues;
Liaising with other trade associations and relevant groups on state and local government issues of importance to NATO members;
Coordinating NATO’s state and local legislative grant program, including administration of the application and award process, coordinating legislative strategy with grant recipients, and reporting on legislative activity;
Maintaining records of the financial aspects of the grant program, including grant disbursements, coalition memberships, and other expenses.
This is a full-time position.
NATO is looking for an outgoing person who possesses close attention to detail and excellent writing, proofreading, and organizational skills. The right candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and at least 3-4 years of experience in government relations or a related field. Trade association experience is a plus, but not a must.
The right candidate will be a quick learner and excellent at taking direction, but we also want you to be someone who sees the forest for the trees. Figuring out how to streamline processes to make them more efficient, thinking creatively, juggling projects effectively while maintaining buy-in from others, and enthusiasm are priority skill sets in this position. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are a plus.
Candidates should be able to travel domestically; travel may be up to 25% of the time.
