This is a three-quarter time, contract position working primarily from a home office and attending events throughout the state.
The FPA of New Jersey Executive Director is the chief staff executive charged with supporting the Board of Directors of the FPA of New Jersey, implementing the operational and strategic plan of FPA of New Jersey and integrating FPA HQ strategies and programs with those of FPA New Jersey. The chapter executive director is the official connection between FPA New Jersey and FPA therefore will work closely with key FPA staff. Responsibilities include:
working collaboratively to recruit, retain and on-board members and volunteers
identify opportunities for programs, events, technology and financial efficiencies
implementing organizational best practices and policies to ensure that programs and services are effectively provided
integrate and align efforts between FPA of New Jersey and FPA HQ
The ideal candidate will have strong association management experience and be an innovative thinker, inspiring leader and consensus builder.
Core Areas of Leadership
Build and maintain relationship/partnership with FPA of NJ Board of Directors and committees
Ensure that FPA of New Jersey’s goals align with FPA HQ goals and Strategic Framework
Ensure that FPA NJ’s programming events consistently align with NJ’s chapter goals and overall strategic plan
Facilitate annual strategic planning
Attend and manage board meetings including agenda, minutes and follow up
Regularly working with the treasurer to develop annual budget, communicate the financial condition and report status of goals
Guide the board in association best practices
Leadership Training and Development
Work with chapter leadership to implement plans and programs
Assist in development and implementation of succession plan
Lead on-boarding, training and integration of new board members within the FPA Chapter bylaws
Member and Volunteer Recruitment and Retention
Work with FPA NJ to create and implement chapter specific member recruitment plan
Analyze membership data to determine if recruitment, retention and member events are effective and meeting intended goals
Develop and assist in strategies to recruit, develop and retain volunteers
Work with FPA of New Jersey volunteers to ensure effective on-boarding and retention
Secure meeting venue, coordinate, execute event specific details with event committee director
Assist in contracting speaker(s)
Meeting planning experience, to include:
Manage event registrations, payments and invoices
Manage meeting logistics including; meeting venue, speaker, sponsor, A/V, food and beverage, registration tracking and name badges
Handle continuing education credit process, and documentation for CE credit approval
Analyze and measure event and survey data to determine activity or meeting success
Administer Sponsorship, Advocacy, Pro Bono, and all other committee activities
Develop statewide sponsor and partner opportunities
Maintain the member database and chapter website
Manage day-to-day operations for the chapter
Respond to member phone calls and email in a timely manner
Develop and maintain relationship and communication with FPA HQ and participate in monthly Chapter Leader Training, contacting FPA HQ staff as needed.
Identify areas for organizational improvement
Attend the OneFPA Chapter Leaders Conference and other training.
Prepare drafts for chapter email distribution announcements for PR & Communications
Such activities as may be directed by the board
Work with FPA HQ to develop and implement integrated technology systems
Develop measurement tool to analyze member engagement from local community level to FPA HQ
Duties as may be assigned by FPA of New Jersey Board of Directors
Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree
Certified Association Executive (CAE), preferred
7+ years of prior association management experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and superior presentation skills required.
Must have understanding of and be comfortable with the use of Social Media platforms
Candidate must demonstrate attention to detail, exceptional responsiveness, and ability to manage and balance many activities
This position requires a true self-starter. The successful candidate must be able and willing to travel around the area, attend Chapter functions. Travel out-of-town to FPA functions may be required.
Must be comfortable with volunteer management, working with multiple Chapter Leaders and key stakeholders
High proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required. Experience with YourMembership.com, is preferred or other Association Management Software.
Financial knowledge, a plus
