The Georgia Optometric Association (GOA) is a 115 year old association that is an affiliate of the American Optometric Association (AOA). The GOA represents optometrists throughout the state of Georgia. The office is located in downtown Atlanta at 400 West Peachtree Street, Suite 201, Atlanta, Georgia.
GOA is looking to hire a full time Communications and Advocacy Coordinator who will perform the following responsibilities:
Coordinate the production and dissemination of electronic & printed communications to GOA Membership. Gather and/or generate web content and update website using association management content system. Update association app with relevant content and facilitate dialogue amongst members. Coordinate the writing, layout and mailing of the GOA monthly printed newsletter and publishing of the weekly online Newsletter. Assist in marketing promotions for events, seminars and conferences to include email blasts and mailings
Work with public relations consultant to oversee social media strategy and generate content aligned with organizational goals.
Work with the Executive Director and General counsel to track legislation and advocate on issues pertinent to optometry during the legislative session at the Capitol. Attend legislative candidate’s fundraisers in Georgia (mainly in Atlanta) on behalf of GOA throughout the year. Work to further develop and maintain the GOA grass roots contacts database with the GOA membership throughout the year. Organize, promote and execute “Optometry’s Day at the Capitol.” Assist in fundraising efforts for GOA Political Action Committee.
Staffing of committees
Serve as the main staff person for the Young OD committee and the public relations committee. Work with volunteers to develop and organize events specific for Young Optometrists. Collaborate with the GOA public relations consultant and GOA members to develop interesting and timely public relations stories.
Hours are M-F, 9-5 with some weekend and after hours throughout the year when the association hosts conferences, board meetings and during the legislative session. Some travel is required. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Some experience in communications/marketing along with experience in legislative advocacy is desired. Understanding of newsletter development, web communications, e-mail marketing is a necessity. Experience with Constant Contact email distribution software.
Qualifications: Strong time and project management with superior writing and editing skills. A self-motivated, results oriented and team player with an ability to work independently. A high degree of accuracy, professionalism, and confidentiality must be maintained at all times. An individual with the ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems. A proven ability to meet deadlines and function in stressful situations and flourish in a multi-tasking environment.
The preferred candidate will have proficient knowledge of computers and software including, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Products and some desktop publishing experience. They will have the ability to quickly learn the association database (IMIS) and be able to incorporate its functionalities into daily life in order to improve office efficiency.
Legislative and association experience is preferred but not required.
