The Marketing Associate is responsible for managing the creation of promotional copy for each new product; managing pre-publication and post-publication review process; coordinating elements of department’s electronic marketing program; coordinating direct mail campaigns; coordinating the exhibits program; and performing general functions and duties as assigned by Associate Director of Marketing and Director of Marketing and Sales.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate new book promotional copy and book reviews.
Send marketing questionnaire to authors to obtain information for promotional copy and pre-publication reviews, meeting attendance, bio and book information for product database, Allbooks.
Administer pre-publication review process. Disseminate manuscripts to pre-pub reviewers and input reviews into database. Upon publication of book, distribute complimentary copy to reviewer.
Administer the flap copy and promotional copy acquisition. Obtain copy and enter copy into database after staff approval. Provide copy to Editorial.
Enter post-publication reviews to database. Send reviews to authors. Coordinates with Book Acquisitions Coordinator to maintain active log of new reviews.
Create and produce book flyers upon publication (sometimes required prior to publication) for use by authors and Acquisitions.
Coordinate Exhibits Program
Order stock of book and journal titles with quantities to sell at exhibits
Coordinate booth logistics including freight, furniture, electricity, etc.
Create materials for each exhibit
Attend exhibits as necessary: booth setup, sales, and breakdown
Liaison for sales representation of exhibits not attended by APPI, through distributors, booksellers, and exhibit providers
Create and disseminate reports for each exhibit including sales and other meeting information
Provide support to Associate Director of Marketing for all aspects of the APPI Bookstore at the Annual Meeting.
Assist with packing of materials for annual meeting.
Work with Associate Director of Marketing on design, mailing lists, and tracking for Direct Mail Campaigns
Determine format, design for promotional pieces (for books, journals, and online subscription products)
Choose copy, reformat and re-purpose when necessary
Complete project sheet, including all job specs, budgeted amounts and mail date
Choose and order mailing lists for each campaign
Ensure that campaigns meet mail date
Track, analyze and report on results of campaigns
Provide support for book sales activities for our wholesaler, distributor, and reseller accounts.
Administer the Amazon.com Advantage Program.
Support the Associate Director of Marketing with the management of these relationships
Maintain the accounts by distributing titles information, creating and distributing Advance Book Information sheets, running and distributing ONIX files, and updating accounts on out of print titles, publication date changes, price changes etc.
Maintain various sales and marketing systems including ACT, Allbooks, and Advantage
Conduct sales calls to main accounts (via phone, web, or in person)
Create materials for sales calls and other activities
Analyze sales for these accounts
Report on sales activity on a monthly, quarterly, annual, and as needed basis
Interface with fulfillment to ensure customer service is maintained with vendors
Manage Social Media Marketing and other online marketing activities
Coordinate Publishing’s activities on the social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc. for all of the different accounts (Publishing, PsychiatryOnline, and journal specific)
Coordinate with Communications Department on social media sites to increase and improve APA’s/APPI’s presence on social media sites.
Conduct promotions via social media that increase APA’s/APPI’s visibility and customer base.
Report and analyze activities for different social media sites.
Perform administrative duties for Marketing Department. Answer general marketing questions, maintain book library for department, and order department’s supplies.
Answer most author marketing questions and requests and manage the email box: firstname.lastname@example.org
Serve as point of contact of any special author requests
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS
BS or BA in marketing or related field with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in marketing and publishing preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of direct marketing (print and online) concepts required; experience in executing campaigns a plus.
Familiarity with marketing standards and fair business practices.
Ability to prioritize and schedule multiple projects.
Good math skills, excellent grasp of English grammar and spelling, ability to compose and edit marketing sales copy and professional correspondence. Requires ability to effectively communicate company policy and goals.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
Excellent verbal, written, and proofreading skills.
Knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, HTML desirable.
Knowledge of psychiatric profession and mental health issues desirable.
