We have an immediate need for a Senior Writer. In this key role, you will stay on top of health care trends and changes that impact the field of sleep medicine and communicate clear, accurate and concise messages in support of the AASM.
As an ideal candidate, you’ve worked in the health care, medical or scientific field and have extensive experience in corporate communications. You do your research and can expertly tailor your messages for your various target audiences with precision and ease. Bonus points if you’ve done similar work at a health or medical association.
Responsibilities and Duties
Maintain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of organizational programs and policies
Stay abreast of health care trends and changes that impact the field of sleep medicine
Interpret complex scientific, medical and health policy information and communicate it with clarity and accuracy
Help position the organization as the leader in the field through executive, corporate, membership and public communication strategies
Write and edit professional letters, editorials, position statements, speeches, talking points, memos, reports and presentations for leadership
Write and edit press releases, media alerts, letters to the editor, articles and blog posts to advance public relations initiatives
Provide collaborative support to address the communication needs of other departments by drafting, reviewing and editing content including letters and brochures
Ensure consistent adherence to professional writing standards and house style through all communication channels
Assist in the periodic review of the organization’s overall communications strategy, evaluating its effectiveness and identifying new opportunities
This position may require some travel, which may include weekends.
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field
At least 8 years of professional experience in progressive communication roles, primarily in the health care field or in medical and science news writing
Superior writing, editing and proofreading skills with an ability to follow a conservative, professional writing style
Clear understanding of appropriate professional communication
Exceptional attention to detail
Consistent use of sound judgment when making decisions
Ability to identify and implement creative solutions to logistical problems
Self-motivated, self-starter with capacity to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and meet deadlines
Strong interpersonal communication skills with an ability to collaborate with colleagues at all levels of the organization
Strong project management skills
Working knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style
