The CEO provides organizational leadership and management for a complex global healthcare organization with an annual budget of $150 million, 500 full-time staff, and a worldwide membership of more than 50,000. Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees (BOT), the CEO is responsible for collaborating with and being responsive to the Board's direction and leadership in executing the strategic priorities for the ACC. The CEO works closely with BOT leaders on key issues impacting the organization and its members, including response to federal and regulatory changes, large-scale media communications, advocacy, and relationships with other medical specialty societies, industry, and other stakeholders. The CEO also leads the College's senior executive team in the implementation of the strategic plan's goals and objectives and in the management of all other aspects of the College. To thrive at ACC, the CEO must be able to balance two major constituent groups: ACC members and ACC staff. The CEO must appreciate the long history and strength of ACC’s culture and maintain a “Best Places to Work” environment. The College needs a leader who maintains organizational stability, while anticipating and responding to change, and who promotes innovation, builds relationships, supports a diverse and inclusive environment, and leverages the talent and commitment of the members, executive team and staff. Major Duties and Responsibilities: - Collaborating with the Board of Trustees and the senior management team to implement the College’s five-year strategic vision (plan), including the achievement of annual and long term goals and financial metrics.
- Continuing the College’s focus on innovation and working with senior staff to identify and foster new organizational and business opportunities.
- Leading and directing the ACC's Senior Executive Team to ensure financial stability, to execute the strategic plan, and to recruit, grow and retain talent that is diverse.
- Supporting the Board of Trustees and other key member groups by providing valuable insights and expertise, building on the CEO’s past business and professional experience.
- Maintaining and fostering the strong volunteer member network to engage in the ACC's activities through consistent outreach, and effective communication with members. Special emphasis will be placed on the next generation and diversity of members to ensure the organization provides wide membership value and inclusivity.
- Working in close coordination with the Board of Trustees, ACC Members and staff to represent the interests of the membership and the patients they serve before key policymaking bodies in the U.S. and internationally.
- Forging and cultivating strong relationships with other related organizations in the U.S. and globally, such as other cardiovascular subspecialty societies, medical professional societies, patient advocacy groups, and international and national health care organizations that complement and advance the mission of the ACC and support achievement of its strategic goals.
- Maintaining a healthy, positive, and balanced internal culture that maintains staff morale and empowers the staff to meet the goals and objectives of the organization.
Desirable Professional Experience: - A history of visionary leadership in a sophisticated and complex healthcare–related organization (such as a professional organization, governmental service, health system, medical device, pharmaceutical, or healthcare technology company).
- Governance and board experience especially in a volunteer-led and driven organization, including the ability to form effective, rapid working alliances with member leaders.
- Experience in a multi-national, multi-cultural or global organization.
- Experience leading in a Dyad structure.
- Leader of an organization with a strong advocacy/government relations role. Familiar with federal regulatory and legislative affairs is a plus. Politically savvy with a working knowledge of the dynamics of Washington, DC.
