The Intelligence and National Security Alliance (INSA), a nonprofit professional association in Arlington, VA, is seeking a Marketing and Communications Assistant. 

This position will work collaboratively with the Director of Communications and Policy to develop engaging, interactive, and effective content for email, website, and social media channels. This individual will seek out ways to incorporate video and interactive elements into messaging and proactively look to build engagement with INSA programs and services. Ideal candidate is personable, flexible, highly organized, possesses excellent written and verbal communications skills as well as a strong understanding of marketing and communications fundamentals. They should take pride in their work, be detail-oriented, comfortable sharing creative ideas and able to connect well with people and work in a highly collegial environment. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop email messages, website posts and social media campaigns that engage members and drive participation in programs and services.
  • Draft and deploy marketing emails and biweekly email newsletter. Partner with staff, interns, and volunteer leaders to develop messaging that meet stakeholders’ needs and organizational goals.
  • Maintain INSA website, ensuring current and accurate information about association programs, events, and initiatives.
  • Create (and/or serve as primary liaison with outside design firm) on visuals for email, web and social.
  • Routinely update INSA Sponsorship Guide with sponsor logos, event descriptions, and sponsorship benefits using Adobe InDesign.
  • Develop #yourIC visual stories and videos to be used intermittently on the website and in marketing through social media posts and emails.
  • Develop effective and engaging social campaigns, including conceiving of ideas, drafting copy, scheduling posts, and monitoring discussions to identify trends and advise on opportunities to increase overall engagement.
  • Attend organizational programs (council meetings, policy symposiums, networking events) and share key highlights on social. Work with staff on after-action summaries for web and member messaging.
  • Stay current on new communications/marketing tools.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a similar field of study.
  • 2-4 years marketing/communications experience, ideally 1-2 years’ graphic design experience.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Experience managing an organization’s social media presence a plus.
  • Basic photography and video editing skills a plus.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

DESIRED SKILLSET

  • Able to maintain a sense of humor and remain highly motivated while working on multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interface with a variety of people are key to this position.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML and WordPress.
  • Understanding of visual design best practices and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) or willingness to learn!
  • Some knowledge of broadcast email platforms (familiarity with MailChimp a plus!)
  • Knowledge of Salesforce and/or Cvent a plus
  • Interest or experience in the intelligence and national security community
