SmithBucklin, a 100 percent employee-owned association management company, is looking for an Sr. Director of Technical Services to join our Business + Trade Industry Practice in Washington DC. Senior Director is responsible for the management of the client's technical services programs and representing the organization in the development and maintenance of building codes and standards impacting windows, doors and skylights. This includes development and maintenance of technical standards for windows, doors, & skylights; representing the client's interests in the development and maintenance of relevant codes and standards developed by International Code Council (ICC), American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), ASTM, UL, and certain state code activities. In addition, the Senior Director manages the client's National Architectural Door Council (NADC) and respective committees; assists in the planning and development of meetings and conferences; represents the client's interests in other relevant industry organizations; provides regular updates for the member newsletters and relevant content for member publications and other communications; develops and manages code, standard and technical services program content for the client's website; and, assists in market research projects.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Represent the client's interest in the development and maintenance of:
ICC's International Residential Code, International Building Code, International Energy Conservation Code, International Existing Building Code, Wildland Urban Interface Fire Code, and ICC 700 National Green Building Standard;
ASHRAE's Standard 90.1 – Energy Standards for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, Standard 90.2 – Energy Efficient Design of Low-Rise Residential Buildings, and Standard 189.1 – Standard for the Design of High Performance Green Buildings;
NFPA's NFPA 80;
ASTM Standards E330, E331, E1886, E1986, F2090, F2006 and others;
UL 10B and UL 10C; and,
Florida and California state codes and related activities.
Manage and coordinate development of technical standards and product category rules for windows, doors and skylights in accordance with ANSI and the client's standards development policies and procedures and maintain the accreditations accordingly.
Provide lead staff support to the client's committee/councils, including:
Exterior Products Code Committee
Exterior Products Standards Committee
Joint Document Management Committee
Market Research Workgroup
National Architectural Door Council (NADC)
Architectural Door Codes and Standards Committee
Develops and coordinates program content for technical meetings, conferences and webinars and deliver presentations at client and industry-related conferences.
Draft technical interpretation bulletins for specific provisions within standards.
Represent the client's interests in other industry organizations and forums developing standards or with other activities relevant to the window, door, and skylight industry
Write articles and regular relevant updates for the client's publications, e-newsletters and websites.
Bachelor's degree from a four year accredited college/university
10+ years of experience in trade associations, government, or building-industry related organizations
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong written, analytical and verbal communication skills
Proficient in time management and organizational skills
Experience with building, energy, and/or sustainability issues
